A question that always boggled my mind! (THE STORY OF ADAM & EVE)
Adam was in this blissful fellowship with God, things were swell in the garden, but he was lonely! So God, in His surpassing love, forms/creates a woman from Adam’s rib and when Adam awakes, and casts his eyes on her, this is what he says:
Genesis 2:23
New Living Translation (NLT)
23 “At last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone,
and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”
I like to think that he was enamored with her beauty and was like “WOW!” And thus the process began that took him off the “God track” and down the “FALL track.” Now I wanna get this straight so that everyone understands my stance, It wasn’t the woman (Eve) that took man (Adam) off coarse but it was the all-consuming DISTRACTION of the beauty of his wife that made him forget His Purpose, His Destiny and His POSITION (Gen 1:26-2:20). MEN ARE MOVED BY WHAT WE SEE, ADMIT IT OR NOT! So how can I say that the man lost focus? My friend and I were talking, this evening, about marriage and that hypnotic way you are so engaged in your “spouse to be” before you get married, that you don’t see anything else in your peripheral vision and many times fall into SIN because of blurred LOVE/LUST vision! The subject came up on how men fall and how women fall – Men fall by being irresponsible and passive (Check Genesis 3:12 and see how the man blamed his wife for his actions, and Genesis 3:6 and see that the man was passive by not saying anything to the devil, although he was standing next to his wife while she was being deceived), Women fall by being tricked (Genesis 3:1-6).
But here’s the twist, what happened or changed in Adam from the end of Chapter 2 to the beginning of Chapter 3 where we see the plot thicken as the man and his wife are getting ready to fall? This is where our conversation got interesting, I believe that Adam lost sight of His purpose because he was soooo infatuated with Eve that he took His focus off of God and was consumed with His wife. He began to worship and serve the creature (Eve) more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen (Romans 1:25). I know that rubs some of you the wrong way, but don’t forget what I said earlier in this post “It wasn’t the woman (Eve) that took man (Adam) off course,” it was the shift in his worship and focus; GOD HAD DROPPED FROM 1st POSITION TO BEING 2nd TO EVE AND THAT CAN NEVER HAPPEN WITH GOD, IF HE IS TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF YOUR LIFE!
WHEN WE DON’T HONOR GOD AS 1st WE SET OURSELVES UP TO FALL EVERY TIME and MEN WILL BLAME WOMEN AND BE PASSIVE AS THEY ARE TRICKED, AND WOMEN WILL BE DECEIVED BY THE THINGS THEY DESIRE AND SEE!
This must be why God reiterated in the 10 Commandments that the #1 Command is that God is #1 and we are to have no other god’s before Him!
