Eligibility:

To participate in any of these programs, you must live in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, or Wayne counties. You must be at least 16 years old and have a desire to be more involved in your children’s lives. You do not have to have custody in order to participate.

On the heels of Independence Day I think about how people all across America celebrated the birth of our country, sang songs in honor of her, appreciated the service men who protect her and prayed that “God would Bless America.”  It’s interesting that we would celebrate becoming an independent nation although no living organism can live and function independently; we’re all INTER-DEPENDENT beings.  Webster defines an organism as this: An organized being; a living body, either vegetable or animal, composed of different organs or parts with functions which are separate, but mutually dependent, and essential to the life of the individual.

WOW, now that may not be as important to you as it is to me but what it tells me is that we’re connected and we cannot function or live to ourselves, by ourselves or for ourselves.  Acts 17:28 tells us this –  For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your [own] poets have said, For we are also His offspring.  Even within the body of Christ, we carry different positions and have specific functions but the Scripture says that we are connected and function together, in Him, so we cannot operate alone.  Even the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit prefer one another over themselves and do not operate INDEPENDENTLY but rather INTER-DEPENDENTLY.  So instead of celebrating INDEPENDENCE DAY, we celebrate INTER-DEPENDENCE DAY – knowing that the birth of our country, and the celebration each year afterwards, is due to the collective passion and work of the whole; separate and different functions, but mutually dependent on the other.

Often we use the law of the land as an occasion to do what we want and how we want it, almost like using God’s grace as an occasion to sin…think about that one for a while!  We say things like… “you do your thing, and I’ll do mines,” or “you believe like you want to and I’ll believe like I want,” or my personal favorite “I’ve got the right to say what I want and think what I want and I’m intelligent enough to keep my views open and not be enslaved in my mind, like you Christians.” (Believe it or not, we’ve heard it like this before.)  And we use the constitution as a means to authenticate our personal views, desires and opinions as factual law.  Bob Dylan wrote a song in 1979 entitled GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY, here are the lyrics below:
